Virtual PBX (vPBX)
Key Systems and Private Branch Exchanges (PBX) are expensive and complex ways to offer the SMB voice productivity tools such as three-way calling, hold, call forwarding, conferencing, and telephone station concentration. These are almost always stand-alone, customer premises hardware solutions requiring different pieces of equipment for voice mail, automated call distribution, and basic call attendant, in addition to requiring technical talent to manage and make even the simplest of changes. As a consequence of these issues, while almost 100% of the SMB market has telephony services, Yankee Group26 reports that 20% of them will replace or upgrade their voice system in the next 12 months, and more than 70% of those businesses with less than 50 employees have simple Plain Old Telephone (POTS) equipment. This data suggests that DaRee’s centrally managed and deployed Virtual PBX represents a simplified alternative to the traditional telephony equipment market.
[InelligentEdge vPBX Graphical User Interface]
The IntelligentEdge vPBX will provide a software-based alternative to expensive hardware based PBX systems. When used with the IntelligentEdge network, the Virtual PBX now becomes an anywhere, any time system that allows users to access the features of their office telephone system whether they are at home, at a pay phone, in a hotel room, on their cellular phone, or anywhere they can access the Internet.
The IntelligentEdge vPBX will not duplicate the hundreds of features found on key/PBX systems. Instead, it will offer many of the most desirable PBX features in addition to introducing unique and innovative improvements to the way we interact with the telephone network. Some of these innovations are:
Virtual Telephone – An interactive, highly intuitive and human-engineered graphical user interface (GUI) shown in Figure 4.3 improves productivity by allowing users to control all features of their telephone station from a PC on the LAN. The features under direct control
of this application are: directory enabled dialing, last number redial, speed dialing, speakerphone. And, with access to the World Wide Web, these same features are available anywhere in the world. Some advantages of Virtual Telephone include: elimination of need for expensive telephone sets, no special wiring is required on the customer’s site, and new services can easily be added without impacting a telephone set.
Fax Extension – dedicated fax to paper, fax to email, email to fax (fax server), and fax to speech conversion capabilities.
Conference calling – Innovative drag-and-drop graphical interface to a familiar feature
Automated Call Distribution - Used in conjunction with automated attendant and basic IVR, the Basic ACD will provide call center features and statistics.
Telephone User Interface (TUI) – controls all vPBX features accessible with standard DTMF tones from any plain old touchtone telephone either internal or external to the IntelligentEdge network
Universal access – Turns a plain old telephone set into a full feature communication device from any location that has dial-in access to the IntelligentEdge network. The system administrator has the ability to disable a second dial tone when accessed remotely.
CTI Integration – The IntelligentEdge solution will publish an Application Program Interface (API) specification based on the industry standard S.100 specification to allow the integration of non-DaRee applications.
Personal Assistant – Allows a road warrior to customize and prioritize call handling, and allow for “exceptions” and “urgencies” to be connected immediately.
Follow me/Find me – Allows users to specify up to 5 numbers to be called when their assigned extension is unanswered.
